“Puzzle Pieces,” by Carol Schiraldi

Ever tried to put together a puzzle with missing pieces? Welcome to my world! When I was a kid, I used to find myself sometimes doing puzzles over the long summer breaks. I was never a camp kid, no, I stayed at home more, so I found things to keep myself occupied. When I wasn’t trying to play musical instruments with varying degrees of success, I would read a lot, play cards, and find myself at the table in front of a puzzle or two.

This image, a vibrant explosion of scattered puzzle pieces, perfectly captures that hectic moment when you realize that assembling a masterpiece is more like herding cats than a leisurely Sunday afternoon activity.

Picture this: you’ve just dumped a box of colorful pieces onto the table, and suddenly, it feels like you’ve opened Pandora’s box. Each piece, with its unique shape and hue, seems to mock you. “Oh, you thought you could put us together? Good luck with that!” they whisper, as you sift through the chaos, desperately searching for that one elusive corner piece. There’s always one that got away too, isn’t there?

The colors in this piece are like a party gone wild—reds, yellows, and browns dancing together in a riot of hues. It’s as if the puzzle pieces decided to throw a rave, and you’re the poor soul stuck trying to figure out the guest list. I mean, who knew that assembling a puzzle could feel like a game of hide-and-seek with a bunch of introverted shapes?

And let’s talk about the artistic flair here. The watercolor effect adds a dreamy quality, transforming what could be a mundane pile of cardboard into a whimsical landscape of potential. It’s like the pieces are saying, “Hey, we’re not just for puzzles; we’re art too!”

But here’s the kicker: every time you think you’ve found a match, you realize it’s just another piece of the wrong puzzle. It’s a metaphor for life, really. We’re all just trying to fit in, but sometimes we end up in the wrong box entirely.

So, the next time you find yourself knee-deep in a colorful mess, remember this artwork. Embrace the chaos, laugh at the absurdity, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll find that the journey of piecing it all together is the real masterpiece. After all, isn’t that what art—and life—is all about?

Until next time…

PS If you are the puzzling kind, I do have a selection of puzzles over on Carol’s Little World. It should come with a warning though, as some are a bit more difficult than others!
