Burst: A Dazzling Surge of Color and Light

Burst, a surge of color and light, abstract image from Carol Schiraldi

So, there I was, minding my own business, when suddenly—BAM!—a multicolor explosion of light decided to burst into my life like a confetti cannon at a surprise party. You know, the kind where you’re not sure if you should be thrilled or just mildly concerned about the cleanup afterward.

This piece, is not titled “Oops, I Did It Again,” but it could be. “Burst,” is my latest foray into the world of abstract art. It’s vibrant, it’s radial, and it’s got more colors than a toddler’s birthday cake. Seriously, if you squint hard enough, you might just see a unicorn prancing through the chaos. Or maybe that’s just me after too much coffee. Who knows?

Now, let’s talk about the process. Imagine me, roaming the world with my camera, coming back home, getting antsy, and trying to figure what to do without a Geisha for a lunch partner. I wanted to do something with light itself, light as a subject, since it’s the most basic element of photography. Surrounding myself by a sea of light, looking like a mad scientist who’s just discovered the secret to time travel, I set out to create an image out of that. I indulged this wild idea of capturing the essence of a light burst—because why not? Who doesn’t want to immortalize the moment when your brain feels like it’s been hit by a rainbow?

As I captured this image, with the precision of a toddler wielding a spoon, I couldn’t help but wonder: Is this art, or have I just created the world’s most colorful Rorschach test? Either way, it’s a win-win. You get to interpret it however you like, and I get to pretend I know what I’m doing.

But let’s be real for a second. Isn’t life just one big, vibrant mess? We’re all just trying to make sense of the chaos, hoping to find some beauty in the madness. And if that means staring at an image that looks like it’s been zapped by a technicolor lightning bolt, then so be it.

So, here’s to the bursts of light that illuminate our lives, the colors that make us smile, and the art that keeps us guessing. And if you’re ever in need of a little inspiration—or just a good laugh—come join me in my travels. I promise, it’s never a dull moment.

This piece is my latest limited edition available on Singulart. You can check it out here. It’s available printed on metal to a finished size of 24×36 inches in edition size of 15.

Until next time…
