Some sad news to share. For those of you who haven’t heard yet, last week my Dad passed. He was just shy of his 91st birthday. He had been fighting a few minor illnesses off, and had some great days mixed in with some bad days. Last Saturday, he ate his dinner and then started to decline. The nurse where he had been staying called me to tell me, so I went up there to hold his hand and be with him. We made him comfortable in the bed and it looked like he was just sleeping at one point. After a spell, I went home to get some rest myself, thinking that maybe (if we were lucky) the next day would be a better day for him. Unfortunately, I got the call a little after 5:30 in the morning telling me he had passed.
I have been a bit busy with the funeral related items and also moving him out of his residence. I am still in the process of trying to sell his house, so it’s been a bit of chaos, although we all feel oddly relieved, as he is not suffering or in pain.
For now, here’s a link to his obituary in case you want to read more.
An interesting note about this picture of him. It’s sort of a snapshot I had taken just after he got his hair cut. It wasn’t a formal portrait or anything, but I liked it best. I thought it looked more like him, the real him, then the rest of the images, so I selected this one to use. A few folks have told me the picture looks really good, that it does in fact look like him, the way he looked. I hope that’s the case, but I might share a few more portraits of him as I can.
Until next time…
