Koi – Orange

A squirrel is just a rat with a fluffy tail. A Koi fish is just a goldfish in a pond. While both of these statements might be truths, they are really just truths we tell ourselves. Almost like little white lies that we really just want to believe or, perhaps, in this case, really just don’t want to believe. While these two statements don’t hold much water (excuse the pun) they really are not all that far from the truth. At the end of the day, a Koi fish really sort of kind of is nothing more than a goldfish in a pond. Sure, we might find tranquility watching the fish swim around the pond and, yes, technically, I guess there are subtle differences between a Koi and a goldfish, but there you have it. A goldfish. A humble goldfish, complete with all the humble “goldfish-ness” that brings to the table. Koi have baggage but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy watching them swim, right? Orange goldfish of the most extraordinary kind, that is.
These are orange Koi as found in the water gardens and available on Carol’s Little World (carolslittleworld.com) here.

Until next time…

My sister has a koi pond (well, her husband does). They had a great big spotted one. One year our temps dropped way below freezing and the koi did not survive. The re-stocked it and it thrives again with a new bridge.

Awe, sorry to hear that but glad they managed to provide cover for a new one. My Koi breeder tells me that somebody once broke in and left them a new one (I guess they didn't know what to do with it/how to feed it.) I always thought that kind of funny-like a robbery in reverse. (They broke in and left something instead of stealing.)
