The other day, I had this *great* post detailing my “photo of the year!” for 2012 and also telling you about some upcoming plans I have for the spiffy new year. *Sigh* It was one of those posts that Flickr and Blogger just ate on me. (Man, I hate it when that happens.) So, today I thought I would brave it yet again to see if the wonderful Internets would let my humble self post again. (Wish me luck, for I am certain to need it!)
Let’s see….For starters, according to Flickr, this is my image of the year for 2012, ranking in at a wonderful number 4 on my Flickr stats. It comes from a shoot I did in the summertime-a friend is a seamstress and designs, actually re-creates, Victorian construction dresses and costumes. This was one taken as part of that shoot, it was sort of a “leftover” when we were playing around with the big skirt, swirling it a bit to try to whip up some motion. I’m always a fan of big, square black and white images and this one seemed to work, so I posted it to Flickr sometime in early September. It was picked up by some online art gallery in southern California and the rest, as they say, is history, ranking in at a whopping number 4 on my Flickr “interestingness” scale. (You laugh, and maybe wonder if that really is a word, but the good folks at Flickr tell me it’s their “secret” in their “secret sauce.” Whatever.)
I’m also slowly starting up the process of booking some travel for the first part of 2013. Yes, it’s true, I’m finally going to get myself over to Las Vegas and shoot at the Boneyard and the Mob Museum. I’m going there on a 50’s Vegas, Elvis-y, Sinatra-y kind of “Vintage Vegas” mini trip. Should be fun. Expect that to hit come early April. Of course, I might sneak away before that, you never know, but I do expect to head over to Vegas for a shoot or two and, more than likely, at least one night on the town. Here’s hoping that turns out OK.
Also got plans to ramp up the studio a bit, updating some lighting and doing some additional studio work, as well as a few more model shoots early in 2013 as well. Already shaping up to be a busy year.
I’ve also got some paintings on display over at the DAC as part of the Encaustic Art show that’s currently hanging up that way. Look for (possibly) a closing reception come the end of the month for that. (The work is slated to be up through January 30th.)
A few more odds and ends to tell you about, but I’m still worried Flickr is going to like get all hungry on me and eat this again, so I’m going to post and run for now. Here’s hoping you had a great new year and are looking forward to a busy, fun, and prosperous 2013.
Until next time…
