So, I was hoping all of this AI “goodness” could help me with my poor gardening skills. I found these little beauties over at the Hill Country Water Gardens and Nursery, also known as my borrowed garden, but didn’t know what they are and forgot to ask.
When put to the test, I asked the great AI machine, “Hey, are these petunias?” Actually, I asked several great AI machines and got varying results. One outright said, “why, yes, yes they are!” Even labeling them as such before I hit the button. You go, AI machine gardening god, you go! The other? It started to say it was a petunia but then I got the oh so charming, “Something went wrong.” Don’t you hate it when that happens?
Bad enough the machines are bad, I really don’t want to be around them when they go wrong. I’m going to just assume they are in fact petunias and leave it at that. Hey, it’s springtime and, if they aren’t petunias, I can always blame my pesky allergies.
Speaking of petunias, it’s a flower that seems to have taken a masterclass in the art of blooming. Whatever these things are, they are putting on a serious show this spring. Seriously, if there were a reality show for flowers, these little blooming beauties would be the divas, strutting their stuff like they own the garden. They’re so perky as compared to the statuesque calla lilies or the soggy water lilies. They put a little punch into your spring, don’t they?
Now, let’s talk about the color pink. It’s like the flower version of a bubblegum pop song. It’s sweet, a little sassy, and impossible to ignore. You can almost hear them whispering, “Why blend in when you can stand out?” And let’s be real, who doesn’t want to be the life of the garden party?
But here’s the kicker: petunias are not just pretty faces. They’re tough cookies, too. If these little guys are in fact petunias, they can handle a bit of heat and drought, which is more than I can say for myself after a long day. I mean, if I had to survive on a few sips of water and a sprinkle of sunshine, I’d be a wilted mess in no time.
And let’s not forget the garden drama. You know, the kind where you plant your petunias with the utmost care, only to have a rogue squirrel decide they’re the perfect snack? It’s like watching a soap opera unfold right in your backyard. “Will the petunias survive the squirrel’s insatiable appetite? Tune in next week!”
The squirrels around my place as of late have been particularly aggressive, as if they are on the hunt for the last acorns of spring. I could see them clobbering these little guys while arm wrestling the robin red breast for the best perch on the old oak tree. I swear, some days my garden is like an organic version of an MMA match.
So, as you gaze upon this vibrant display of what I think are petunias, take a moment to appreciate their resilience and flair. They remind us that life is too short to be anything but bold and beautiful. And if you ever find yourself feeling a bit wilted, just channel your inner petunia, stand tall, soak up the sun, and don’t be afraid to show off your colors. After all, the world could use a little more bloom and a lot less gloom!
Until next time…
