Happy Father's Day

, originally uploaded by carolsLittleWorld.

Today is Father’s Day. I hope that you remembered to call your Dad and wish him a happy day.

Many people actually learn photography from their fathers. There are many photographers in the world who have “discovered” photography as it was passed down from the older generations. Photography can be a wonderful thing too, to share with one’s parents, especially since older people are usually still capable of taking pictures. Many photographers work right up until a ripe old age and photography itself can be a wonderful little sort of “exercise” for older people. It’s an excuse, anyway, to get out and walk some and so it can be good for us, for us to keep doing, as we get older.

I hope you had a great photographic Father’s Day with your Dad and were able to sneak in some happy shooting or at least enjoy a good meal and some quiet conversation.

For all you Dad’s out there, I hope your day today was special and you made the most of it.

Until next time…

my dad loved photography but died in an airplane accident when I was five. He would have loved digital photography.

I'm sure he would have loved it. It makes you wonder too how many of the "old school" photographers would have loved it and what kind of work they would be doing right now, doesn't it?

I mean, like think of Ansel Adams or HCB with a computer? Now that would be a trip!

My dad died just as digital photography was becoming available to the masses. He was an old style photographer – very keen – and yes, it's because of him that I took it up, although we are very different photographers and also I wouldn't have the patience to persevere without the digital darkroom!
