The Deborah Award

Thanks to Postcards from Wildwood for nominating me for The Deborah Award.

Usually, I ignore web awards, but this one is different-it’s special in a few different ways. For starters, it comes from Postcards, and Postcards (Janice) is very special-she’s a great blogger and I look forward to connecting with her, enjoying her experiences and images, even though we’ve never met. She lives on the Isle of Wight, a place I may never get to see, and shares her experiences on her wonderful blog in such colorful heartfelt ways. Her blog is a joy to read and that makes this award special for me.

The creator of this award wanted to honor the hope, courage and faith of Deborah, the mother of a son serving in the armed forces. From the award page, “there is nothing more wondrous a blessing for anyone than for a friend who came and never left your side.”

What does courage mean to you? Hope Courage Faith-these can be nebulous terms sometimes. Is courage the act of doing what you feel is right? Is it just standing up for what you believe in? Is it sticking the course when others have strayed? Is is expressing how you really feel? These can be hard to pin down, yet we all know these qualities exist. I like to think that courage is intrinsically tied to strength, the kind of strength that we all wish we could channel at one point or another.

So, thanks to Janice for the award. It got me thinking, it got me laughing, it got me reflecting, and it reminded me how connected we all really are.

Oh, and, in case you’re wondering about the “laughing” part, I happened upon this little picture, of what courage means to somebody else:

I guess courage is really accepting that, some days, you’re the penguin and others you’re the polar bear.

Until next time…

I think it takes a lot of courage to be a penguin. In fact, I wouldn't make it as a penguin for five minutes. Congratulations!

Well, I know I wouldn't make it as *this* penguin for five minutes, that's a given. :~)

Having to always wear a tux, even if you're female…yeah, that's hard really.

Hi Carol, Sorry not to have seen this sooner but I'm sure you understand under the circumstances…! Thank you for your lovely words and for the thoughtful post about hope, courage and faith. When you feel the time is right for a trip to IOW just holler. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later – before we're both old and grey. (FYI I already have one or two grey hairs.)
    Janice.
