Monochrome

This one is from White Sands, New Mexico, back in the days we could travel. I had gone to White Sands through El Paso, which in itself was quite a trip. To get to White Sands, I had to fly into El Paso, rent a car, drive over the New Mexico state line, then up to White Sands. Most people don’t know this, but White Sands is actually a town itself, albeit a very small one. The closest “village” (as it were) is the city of Alamogordo, New Mexico which is a short drive from the entrance to the National Park (formerly a National Monument.) 

Driving along in White Sands can be a bit odd. For starters, there is
often nothing around. When I say, “Nothing,” I mean like NOTHING.
Nothing for miles and miles. I believe White Sands is about the same
size as the state of Rhode Island (no kidding.) If that weren’t enough,
driving on the surface of the sand is a bit strange. It does strange
things to your tires and makes the car feel like it’s sliding more.
Driving across White Sands is eventful, that’s for sure, even if nobody
is around to catch you doing it.

This image is actually from an infrared converted camera I used to shoot a while back. I loved the dreamy look and enjoyed playing with that camera. After shooting with the converted camera, I swapped the colors channels around to convert the image to black and white.
