Getting Around Without Leaving Your Seat

I wasn’t going to say anything else about it, but my exhibit in New Orleans has opened. Sometimes, with juried shows, you get a hodgepodge of work, a lot of it doesn’t fit and some of it’s better than others. Truth be told, at the end of the day, the jurors don’t always pick the best of work.

That would be completely not the case here. I have to admit, from looking at the website the show looks fantastic. It’s everything I thought that it would be and more. I’d even say that it’s one of the nicest looking shows I’ve seen in a long time. The juror picked a lot of work that deals with spacial relationships, those odd and magical results that can happen when you take the 3 dimensional and “flatten” it down to 2, the way we photographers do. Anyway, have a look if you are so inclined. It really is one outstanding exhibition, and I’m especially proud to be included.

Finally, in other “Go! Go! Go!” news, a former co-worker, Darran, has left work, left Austin, left the field of high-tech and is backpacking around the world. You can catch him on the web at this site or you can rest safely in the knowledge that he is coming up to Victoria Falls, and should make it there sometime soon, if he hasn’t already.

If I didn’t have a house, a car, a dog, a mortgage, and all of the things that go along with it, I’d probably look to do something just like that. I mean, I love the idea that somebody so young can just pack up, move out, take all of their worldly possessions and cart them off around the globe. It kind of serves as a reminder to us all, to us “older” people, how it’s great to dream, it’s great to do, it’s great to see.

So, what are you waiting for? Go!

Until next time…

    Wow!

The pictures are amazing. Although I have to say that I don’t really get some. I’m sure it is because my eye is not refined enough:)

Love your photo! The colors and textures are amazing!

When are you going to have a show in Austin???

Thanks for the kind words. I’m a little “out there” in terms of my style so, yes, not everybody always “gets it.” If it were easy and straightforward, it wouldn’t be as fun, right?

As far as showing in Austin, I have done it before and probably will do again. Just not sure when at this point. I’m about to undertake a bit of an exhibition hiatus so that I can get my new computer setup and finish my book.
